There have been many recent news stories of people not reporting for Jury service in the State of Texas.

This problem demonstrates the need to find ways to make the process of Jury selection easier.

This system takes a step forward towards that goal.

Introduction

The system was designed for the District Clerk's Office of Tom Green County, Texas.  It is now commercially available to local government offices throughout the State of Texas.

For the potential Juror, the ability to respond to their summons online, and receive an immediate response, makes the process convenient and easy.

For the county, pre-qualifying Jurors online reduces the number of people who have to report in person, saving the court time and money.  Also, security risks are reduced by not having so many people in the court buildings at the same time.

The System

This is a web-based 'Juror Questionnaire' that intelligently uses the participant's responses to pre-qualify the Juror.  Those who are disqualified, or exempt from Jury duty are notified by the system that they are not required to report in person, or are issued appointments to meet with the judge at a specified time and date to review their claim.  At that appointment, the judge will already have the person's response and will be ready to hear the claim.

The responses are stored online and locally sorted into different categories.  The responses can even be printed on your existing summons forms.

The system is fully customizable using Apache ASP pages and VBScripting to safely and securely handle the data.
